Coit Tower

Again, without much comentary, a few photos from a walk in San Francisco. This time I made my way across the hills to Coit Tower.

Gum Tree? Yes, they are all over the place in San Fran and a city stroll sometimes feels like a bush walk in Australia. The story behind the gum trees is quite interesting. With all the invasive species that have been introduced to Australia, these Eucalypts were brought to San Francisco from Australia. And it is the same old story: Someone thought it was a good idea to introduce these trees for timber. The species took really well to the climate and is by now displacing native trees. However, the people who had the great idea did not bother to check exactly which species of eucalypt was chosen and the one that is populating the San Francisco area is completely useless as timber.
